How to create a classroom seating chart

  • Enter the student labels, one per line. Use numbers or initials on shared devices.
  • Select two to six rows and three to eight desks per row. The number of desks must be at least the number of students.
  • Choose Shuffle to assign seats randomly or Keep entered order to place names row by row.
  • Select Create seating chart. Click any desk and then a second desk to swap their students.
  • Print the resulting seating plan or use your browser’s Save as PDF option.

Tips for better classroom seating

Random seating can be useful for variety, but teachers should review every assignment for vision, hearing, mobility, attention, and learning needs. Choose placements deliberately when a student needs an accessible desk, a quieter location, or a supportive partner. This tool does not know those needs and should not make placement decisions automatically.

The generator does not create student accounts or save your seating plan. If you need a record for later, print or save your chart locally. Avoid entering full student names on public classroom screens.
